Fairtex BGV14 Boxing Glove Review
Fairtex’s BGV14 gloves are a welcome addition to their range and a testament to the skill of the Fairtex design team. These gloves include all of the design features one expects from a Fairtex glove, with a couple of tweaks that make the BGV14 stand out.
Read on to find out why you should buy Fairtex BGV14 Boxing Gloves.
Fairtex Quality
Fairtex products are always high quality and reliable but the company also excels at innovation. The traditional Muay Thai style of glove tends to have more knuckle padding and less wrist support than other boxing gloves. Nak Muays even wrap their hands differently than other boxers, focusing on knuckle protection. Whereas certain Western and especially Mexican style gloves, focus more on wrist support, with adequate but reduced knuckle padding, often made from horse hair. This style of glove is often referred to as a ‘punchers glove’, because the fighter gets to feel the thrill of the punch connecting and biting. Some fighters consider this visceral sensation essential to the sport so, if possible, will only use ‘punchers gloves’.
A nod to the puncher’s glove
The Fairtex BGV14 glove, is a nod to the punchers glove. It has all the solid, high quality design features one expects from Fairtex but the BGV14 has less knuckle padding with a softer and less dense feel than other gloves in their range. So it’s a kind of fusion between a Thai style and Western or Mexican style boxing glove. Great wrist support with longer than usual cuff and a double stitched hook shaped pad, running up the center of the wrist and curving around the palm of the hand, for extra support when parrying, blocking and checking strikes. Ample thumb padding with an attachment to the glove, to reduce the risk of thumb injury, makes for a solid and sturdy design despite the softer and thinner knuckle padding.
This is what really makes the BGV14 glove stand out. Often a punchers glove is not recommended for the beginner. You have to know how to land a punch properly if you don’t want to risk injuring your hands using such gloves but the BGV14 glove has all of the support a beginner needs with the added extra of being able to feel the punch connect.
Fairtex BGV14 Boxing Gloves Construction
The longer cuff on these boxing gloves definitely provides you with more wrist support. On the palm side of the glove, there is extra padding that goes across the palm and down the outer side of the wrist. This provides protection when you are catching kicks or checking strikes from your opponent. The grip bar in these gloves is nice and soft. It is very easy to form a fist when wearing these gloves.
The padding is super soft and distributed across the knuckles, the back of the hand and into the thumb. The thumb is semi attached to the fingers which gives it quite a bit of movement, this definitely helps when making a fist or when you need to grab your opponent. The glove has a nice wide opening which comes up past the heel of your hand, allowing lots of room for hand wraps and ventilation.
The BGV14’s use Fairtex’s fantastic, Syntek leather. This synthetic material is just as durable as leather would be, with softer surface and a nice smooth feel. The Syntek material is very hard wearing just like genuine leather. You can read more about Fairtex’s Syntek technology here.
These gloves use a water resistant microfiber interior, so they’re easy to keep clean and dry between training sessions.
